Driving, Desert and Dessert!

After a winter of rain, I'd heard through the grapevine that the desert flowers were busting out blooms like never before. Curious to see these Spring delights, I coaxed the crew into a Sunday trip to Anza Borrego! We drove out Hwy 76 and headed toward Lake Henshaw, where we stopped for a breakfast burrito break.

Davis loved all the animal heads at The Roundup, the only restaurant at our pitstop. He liked them so much, he decided to grow horns of his own before we left.

We landed in Anza Borrego an hour later and found a hiking trail just off the road. The weather was perfect, Davis was ready for an adventure, but where were my flowers? Oh! You mean we have to hike into the desert and look for these tiny treats? Once on the trail, they were spotted and I was in awe of the variety of plants, rocks and blooms!

Our hike ended when Davis discovered cactus, and just as the horns before, decided to grow his own...

On the way home we looped through Julian for a pie break at Mom's where the two moms chowed down homemade energy for the drive home!

It truly was a day of driving, desert and finally, dessert!
