Gilligan and The Skipper Too

When you go out on a boat with The Skipper, you always know it is going to be an adventure... And today was one of those adventures. The weather was just too nice. The lunch was just too tasty. Davis was just too eager to put on that life vest and learn how to drive the boat.

I was originally going to call this post "Make Way For Thomas" because Davis refused to put on any clothes this morning except his Thomas the Train pjs (note the outfit under the life vest), but as the day's events unfolded, I decided to change my title...

First, let me say my Dad is a capable Captain - He's been boating for decades. And let me also say my Mom is a respectable First Mate - She knows all boating terminology and protocol. So today, when we ventured out of Dana Point Harbor and into the great blue sea, we never expected anything but the safest excursion in their sea vessel.

We saw seals! We soaked up the sun! We laughed and bounced and tried to keep Davis from going overboard!

However... after 20 mins, the boat battery died and the engines went silent... We bobbed and floated with no power. Luckily we were smack in the middle of the most beautiful ocean we've had in months - Davis was rocked to sleep in his enormous life vest. Tim napped. The Skipper called Vessel Assist for a tow. Barb planned how to get a pregnant girl and her 1 1/2 year old onto the quickly approaching kayaks to evacuate. HA.

An hour later we were rescued and towed back to the safety of the slip - We laughed about our sea adventure but poor Dad had to face interrogation by his slip-mates who all came calling to hear about the to-do.

But truly, is there any better place to be stranded than 2 miles offshore in the Pacific Ocean on a gorgeously sunny day? Ahoy matey! Gilligan and the rest of the castaways survived with a great story to tell!
